One interesting portal integration would to be to (by looking at the existing portals available) come up with a JCR schema that would work well as a base schema for portal "layout" or page definitions. There is no standard around this today. The spec focuses on the portlet not the portal. The advantage of providing the basic schema is that portals which adopt the schema can claim JCR compliance, and at the same time leverage the capabilities of alfresco including rules, workflow, Snapshot, preview etc. A portal that uses the Alfresco base layout schema could then add their own aspects etc. WCM could be used to manage the portal document root as if it were a "real" document root.

In short the portal integrations approach could be two pronged. One integration is to plug in the alfresco application so that it lives nicely within a portal (I think as described in use case A.)

The second integration may be characterized as an offering of the alfresco repository as basic infrastructure for applications like a portal.
