Q: Is this page still valid for 2.0 ? The filename seems to have changed log4j.properties and with this the format as well.

A: It is possible to configure log4j in several ways. This is just a general page on how to configure properly when using the xml file mechanism.

Q: Is there a way to change log4j's behavior without changing the main log4j.properties file? That is, are any other config files looked for by log4j and read if they exist?

A: Apparently not as of November 2007. See open issue AR-1744 from Sept. 7, 2007.
